Couples & Relationship Therapy

Relationships carry a lot. Careers, parenting, health, grief, identity shifts, money, sex, and the weight of old hurts can all settle into the space between you. Over time, even strong partnerships can feel strained, distant, or stuck on repeat. Couples & Relationship Counseling at Zen’n’ish® offers a grounded, compassionate space for partners and relationship constellations to slow down, be honest, and find each other again.

You do not have to be married to come. Queer, straight, monogamous, poly, and non traditional constellations are welcome.

Why partners seek counseling?

In Couples & Relationship Counseling, sessions may focus on:

  • Communication that actually helps you feel heard

  • Patterns of conflict, withdrawal, shutdown, and escalation

  • Repairing trust after betrayal, secrets, or broken agreements

  • Rebuilding emotional intimacy and a sense of “us”

  • Navigating desire differences, low desire, sexual disconnection, or avoidance

  • Understanding how past relationships and family experiences show up now

  • Sharing needs and boundaries without blame

  • Making decisions about the future of the relationship with more clarity

When specialized sexual health work is needed, Sex Therapy or Kink Positive Counseling may be recommended as a focused track alongside or within your couples work.

What we might work on together

To keep things clear and ethical:

  • There is no sexual contact, nudity, or live sexual activity in session

  • Your therapist does not participate in your scenes or dynamics

  • You are never pressured to share more detail than feels right for you

Kink Positive Counseling is talk based and reflection based. It can be paired with Sex Therapy when there are specific sexual functioning concerns or distress, or with Sex & Intimacy Counseling when the focus is on emotional closeness, communication, and relationship patterns.

How we work

Couples & Relationship Counseling with KiKi is collaborative and structured, but still warm and human. Depending on your needs, sessions may draw from:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy

  • Imago and attachment-informed frameworks

  • Gottman-informed concepts and tools

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Positive Psychology and strength-based approaches

  • Mindfulness and Eco Somatic elements to help regulate the nervous system in the room

At times, KiKi may meet with partners together and occasionally individually when clinically appropriate and agreed upon in advance.

The focus is not on naming a “problem partner.” The focus is on the pattern between you and how both of you can influence it differently.

What it can feel like over time

With consistent work, many partners describe:

  • Feeling more like a team again

  • Arguing less, or recovering from conflict more quickly

  • Having more language for what they feel and need

  • Feeling safer being vulnerable, playful, or honest

  • Experiencing intimacy and closeness with more intention and ease

Zen’n’ish® is an LGBTQIA+ welcoming, kink aware and kink positive, and non traditional relationship affirming practice. Everyone is welcome.
