EMDR Therapy

EMDR

EMDR (SAFE EMDR)

LaKisha “KiKi” Hudson, PhD, is an EMDR trained clinician who offers a Safety and Attunement Focused approach often referred to as SAFE EMDR.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess difficult or traumatic experiences so they feel less overwhelming in the present. Using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, tapping, or tones, EMDR supports your nervous system in moving stuck material toward resolution.

Instead of having to retell every detail of what happened, EMDR focuses on how the memory is stored in your mind and body now, and helps it shift toward more ease, clarity, and self compassion.

What is SAFE EMDR?

At Zen’n’ish® EMDR is never rushed and never one size fits all. SAFE EMDR places extra emphasis on:

  • safety in the nervous system

  • attunement in the therapeutic relationship

  • pacing that respects your limits

  • mindfulness and body awareness throughout the process

This means we spend time preparing your system before going anywhere near the hardest memories. You learn grounding, resourcing, and regulation skills so that you have anchors to come back to during and after EMDR work.

SAFE EMDR brings together:

  • the structured, research supported process of EMDR

  • with an added focus on gentleness, consent, and attunement

So you are not just “pushing through” trauma work, but actually feeling supported as you move through it.

What EMDR can help with

EMDR can be especially helpful for:

  • single incident or complex trauma

  • childhood emotional wounds and attachment injuries

  • anxiety and panic

  • grief and loss

  • shame and negative self beliefs such as “I am not enough” or “I am not safe”

  • lingering impact of past experiences that still feel “too close”

We decide together if and when EMDR is appropriate, and we revisit that decision as needed.

What EMDR sessions may look like

EMDR with KiKi typically includes:

  • assessment and collaborative treatment planning

  • preparation, grounding, and building inner resources

  • identifying target memories, beliefs, emotions, and body sensations

  • gentle bilateral stimulation to support reprocessing

  • checking in and slowing down as needed so your system is not flooded

  • integrating new beliefs, insights, and sensations of safety

EMDR can often be offered via secure telehealth when clinically appropriate, or in person when available.

Healing is not about “getting over it” on command. It is about creating enough inner and outer safety for your system to do what it knows how to do: move toward regulation, connection, and wholeness.

You bring your story, your pace, and your no’s.
Together, we use SAFE EMDR to help your mind and body loosen the grip of old pain and make more room for peace in the present. 🌱

And you already know: all of you is welcome here. 💜
