Depression & Anxiety

Depression and anxiety are some of the most common reasons people seek therapy, but they rarely feel “common” when you are the one going through them. They can touch everything: sleep, appetite, energy, relationships, work, and your sense of self.

At Zen’n’ish® we hold depression and anxiety as understandable responses to life and nervous system overload, not personal failures.

How Depression can show up

Depression is more than “feeling sad.” It often shows up in the body, thoughts, and daily life, including:

  • Low mood, emptiness, or feeling numb

  • Apathy or loss of interest in things you used to enjoy

  • Guilt, shame, or feeling like a burden

  • Exhaustion, low energy, or feeling slowed down

  • Irritability or feeling on edge

  • Changes in sleep, either too much or not enough

  • Changes in appetite or weight

  • Trouble concentrating, making decisions, or remembering things

  • Thoughts that life does not matter or that others would be better off without you

Sometimes depression follows clear stressors like loss, trauma, illness, or major life transitions. Other times it seems to appear out of nowhere. Either way, you deserve care.

How Anxiety can show up

Anxiety can be loud and obvious or quiet and constant. It may look like:

  • Racing thoughts or not being able to “shut your mind off”

  • Worrying about worst case scenarios

  • Feeling restless, wired, or unable to relax

  • Physical symptoms such as tight chest, upset stomach, headaches, sweating, or trembling

  • Panic attacks or sudden waves of fear

  • Avoiding people, places, or tasks because they feel too overwhelming

  • Being extra perfectionistic or overperforming to manage fear

Depression and anxiety often travel together. You might feel wired and tired at the same time.

How therapy can help

Therapy for depression and anxiety at Zen’n’ish® is collaborative and tailored. Together, we may:

  • Map how your symptoms show up in your thoughts, body, and behaviors

  • Explore the life experiences, stressors, or identities that shape how they unfold

  • Teach your nervous system new ways to regulate through grounding and mindfulness

  • Challenge unhelpful thought patterns with compassion, not harsh self talk

  • Build supportive routines that honor your real energy levels

  • Address burnout, grief, trauma, or relationship patterns that keep you feeling stuck

  • Connect you with additional resources or referrals when needed

Approaches may include Mindfulness Cognitive Therapy, Eco Somatic Therapy, EMDR when appropriate, sound grounding, and other evidence informed methods, all at a pace that respects your system.
