Grief & Loss Counseling

Grief is a natural response to loss, but it rarely feels “natural” when you are inside it. It can shake your body, your beliefs, your routines, and your sense of who you are.

Grief is not only about death. You might be grieving:

  • a loved one or a relationship

  • a divorce or separation

  • a job, role, or career identity

  • a pet

  • your health, mobility, or energy

  • financial stability or a sense of safety after trauma

  • a future you thought you would have

Whatever you are grieving, it deserves to be honored.

There is no right way to grieve

Grief does not move in neat stages. There is no timeline you are supposed to be on. Your experience is shaped by your personality, nervous system, culture, relationships, faith, and history.

You might notice:

  • Shock or disbelief
Feeling numb, foggy, or like this cannot really be happening.

  • Sadness and longing
Crying often or not at all, feeling empty, heavy, or deeply lonely.

  • Guilt
Wishing you had done or said something different, feeling responsible, or even feeling guilty for moments of relief.

  • Anger
At people, systems, doctors, family, yourself, or life itself.

  • Fear and anxiety
Feeling unsafe, unsure of how to go on, or like the world is no longer predictable.

  • Physical symptoms
Fatigue, changes in appetite, stomach issues, headaches, body aches, or difficulty sleeping.

None of these reactions mean you are grieving “wrong.” They mean your body and heart are trying to make sense of a world that has changed.

How grief counseling can help

You do not have to be “over it” to come to therapy. You do not have to make your grief smaller to be taken seriously.

In grief counseling at Zen’n’ish® we can:

  • Give you a safe place to tell the story as many times as you need

  • Make room for complicated feelings, including anger, relief, or numbness

  • Explore how your culture, beliefs, and family history shape your grief

  • Support you in tending to your body while it holds so much

  • Help you navigate anniversaries, triggers, and waves of emotion

  • Gently look at what staying connected to what you lost looks like now

  • Explore how to keep going without forcing yourself to “move on” before you are ready

We are not here to rush your process. We are here to sit with you in it.

You do not have to grieve alone

One of the most healing parts of grief work is realizing that you are not the only one carrying something this heavy, and that your particular way of grieving still makes sense.

You bring your memories, your questions, your anger, your love, and your exhaustion.
Together, we tend the loam around your loss so that over time, your grief has a place to rest and your life can slowly make room for both sorrow and new moments of meaning. 🌱💜

If you or someone you care about is struggling to carry grief alone, you are welcome to reach out and explore whether working together feels supportive.
